Amazing Spider-Man She’s Back
By Walt | October 8, 2009

Mary Jane Watson
Peter Parker (Spider-Man) has a certain redhead in his life again Mary Jane Watson. Peter is surrounded by beautiful women but there is something special about Mary Jane. Oh yea, that’s right they were married and very much in love once upon a time. The “One More Day” storyline changed all that, Mary Jane sacrificed all that to save Aunt May’s life. Peter and Mary Jane’s marriage was erased from history and every-one’s memories by the demon Mephisto. Still wonder even in Marvel how Mephisto would have powers that great but that is Marvel’s problem not mine. Peter and Mary Jane made a deal with the Devil and Joe Quesada Editor and Chief got his wish a restart of the Spider-Man storyline. Very controversial the “One More Day” storyline was heavily criticized by reviewers and fans alike. I did not pick up the title again till the Dark Avenger’s storyline and Harry Osborn’s involvement in Spider-Man’s life.
From Newsarama Brandon Thomas, in review, felt that One More Day was “an incredibly well-told story.” He praised the writing, in particularly the morally ambiguous decision Peter has to make and the way he and Mary Jane deal with it together, as well as Quesada’s art, which he felt set the tone of “guilt, regret, and despair.” In regards to the change made in Spider-Man canon, he said, “Peter Parker being married really isn’t a vital component of the mythos” and that it allowed Marvel to make “big, sweeping changes to bring things slightly more into focus and back on message. I have to say that the “message” of a married superhero is a vital component of the Spider-Man mythos. Mary Jane and Peter have been through a lot of good and bad but still you knew that deep inside they were meant for each other. marriage is not a dirty word just like Sue and Richard of the Fantastic Four it is a growing real relationship and Peter can’t hop from one relationship to another he must grow up. In an other review Troy Brownfield felt that the storyline damaged Marvel continuity and Spider-Man’s decision was “selfish and childish,” not to mention “a big middle finger to the idea of marriage in comics.” He speculated preferable endings to the story before concluding, “As it stands, Peter, MJ, May . . . and the readers . . . all got a raw deal.
As comic reader maybe we did get “a raw deal” but I will hold out because the last part of One More Day story left you wondering if Mary Jane still remembers what Peter and her had once and is trying to get it back. Maybe they will become a love story again. Maybe Marvel is listening to comic readers or just trying to sell comics. It is my opinion they belong together. See you at the comic shop. Solomon Grundy (Born on a Monday)

Solomon Grundy Blackest Night
Solomon Grundy 7 part series has to be one of this years sleeper story line in the comic world. In the one-shot Faces of Evil: Solomon Grundy (March 2009) by Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins, Cyrus Gold returns to life in Slaughter Swamp, as he was prior to becoming Grundy. He returns to Gotham City, but is shot by police after attacking a charity worker. In the police morgue, he transforms into Solomon Grundy. Grundy is once more an unintelligent monster, repeating the opening line of the nursery rhyme. A week later, having retreated to the sewers, he has a fight with Killer Croc. At the end of the fight, exhausted, he reverts to Cyrus Gold again. He finds himself in front of his own grave, where the Phantom Stranger tells him he has seven days to undo his curse, as “There is an unholy night coming, as black as the dead’s blood. And it’s best if Solomon Grundy was not around for it.” (A reference to the upcoming Blackest Night storyline.) Alan Scott serves as his reluctant guide, as the story continues in the Solomon Grundy miniseries. In the count down to Blackest Night, Cyrus Gold was given one week to discover the truth of who murdered him, so he could repent for all of his sins and gain absolution. Alan Scott and the Phantom Stranger were given as his guides throughout the week. Eventually it is revealed that Gold committed suicide, meaning he forced the curse of Solomon Grundy on himself. At the end of the series’ run we see Grundy resurrected as a Black Lantern, and Cyrus Gold in hell. In Superman/Batman #66, Bizarro and Man-Bat will have to face off against Black Lantern Solomon Grundy.

Superman Batman #66
I am glad to see the story Solomon Grundy brought to a conclusion finally in the DC Universe. Character was made in a swamp and has a differant place in the comics. Not a true villain but simple in thoughts and deeds. It would seem Solomon Grundy should not have the same fate as Cyrus Gold (his alter ego) who really was a bad person from the beginning. Maybe the DC writers will have a little mercy toward the big guy. That remains to be seen in the story of Blackest Night and in the pages of Superman/Batman #66 and #67 on sale November and December. Blackest Night
By Walt | August 15, 2009

- Green Lanterns Series
Blackest Night is a company-wide, multiple title story arc published by DC Comics. Written by Geoff Johns and pencilled by Ivan Reis, Blackest Night is the story about how a counterpart to the Green Lantern’s Central Power Battery is found and accidentally activated. Dead superheroes, killed in recent years are brought back to life via the use of black power rings issued by the Green Lantern villain, Black Hand at the behest of a dark power located with a region of deep space called Sector 666. This series of stories is the third in a trilogy that began with Green Lantern: Rebirth and was followed up with the “Sinestro Corps War“.
The real central theme in this series is emotion. This entire series is about emotion. It’s about conflicting emotion, and changing emotion, and dealing with emotion. What emotion means, what it is. Blackest Night Prophecy
Verse 6 of the Book of Oa reads…
…The red throes of rage, the orange light of avarice,…
…the yellow fire of fear, the blue rays of hope,…
…the indigo glow of compassion and the violet aura of love.
And in the center of it all, the green might of will power.
And as the light rises, so shall an unknown darkness!
A darkness with no satiation.
A darkness with no life!”

Legion of 3 Worlds
By Walt | July 10, 2009

Legion of Three Worlds
Finally we are getting the Final – Final Crisis story months after the main story has ended, coming July 22 at your nearest comic store. This story is interesting because it is about Superboy-Prime and his campaign against the future Legion of Super Heroes plus the development of the identity of the Time-Trapper and his hatred of the Legion and everything Superman. I am frustrated by how long it has taken DC to release the comic. But I think it was held to put make more interest in the new release of an old title Adventure Comics. My thinking is that Adventure Comics will feature stories about the Legion and Superboy just like the original title back in the fifties and sixties and seventies for a new generation of readers. I must say that I did injoy the stories during that time period as corny as they were.
But the true story behind this comic is Superboy-Prime. One moment he is made to be as a spoiled brat with the powers of a god and the next in issue 4 he is suppose to be the Time Trapper also with the powers of God to control time itself. What is going on here nothing is logical here nothing to set a the story in that direction. Superman wanted to redeem the Superboy but how do you redeem Time Trapper. Superboy-Prime has murdered in cold blood and his crimes are many as are Time Trapper who has killed in the past. Writer Geoff Johns has said that Legion of Three Worlds is the Superboy-Prime story. What will be his fate along with Time Trapper who knows. We do know the good guys prevail because Superman after talking to Brainiac 5 returns to the future with the key to fixing the Final Crisis in Issue 7 present time. As frustrated as I am with DC for holding out I have my copy reserved for July 22 to see what happens. It will be amazing if Geoff Johns can pull this one off. A long wait but I hope worth it. Final Crisis
By Walt | May 18, 2009
Final Crisis is a seven-issue comic book limited series published by DC Comics in 2008 and 2009 and written by Grant Morrison. It was amazing

Final Crisis
in it’s scope and a real shake up of the DC Universe. It has major charecters dying and the creation of new charecters and many tie-ins from all heroes and bad guys. Well worth the read but so much is happening you may have to read again to get all the dimensions of action. Crossover titles help put tell the whole story. DC really can go any direction they want. I hope they do a good job with my favorate super heroes in the comic world. Let me know what you think. Walt
