X-Men: Schism #5 Leads to Regenesis

X-Men Schism

The X-Men’s world changes forever! With mutant numbers at their lowest and trust dwindling, an international incident demands the Children of the Atom come together…but instead splits them apart! Writer Jason Aaron and an all-star team of artists present the next evolution of Marvel’s mutant heroes in X-Men: Schism!

This 5 part series has set the table for the separation of teams and leadership of the mutant kind in the Marvel universe. Jason Aaron writer for the series is usually a good story teller, but this one baffles me centered around the always violable relationship between Wolverine and Cyclops. The fight is to bring the younger members of the mutants into the fight as cyclops wants or ease them into more responsibility after they are trained and understand what they are doing this is Wolverines wishes for them. Wolverine is protecting them from the horrors of battle and possible death.

It came to a head with a giant Sentinel wading towards Utopia, and Cyclops wanting to fight with the young mutants from “Generation Hope” at his side while Wolverine wanted to evacuate Utopia.  The two eventually came to blows right in the middle of the Sentinel’s attack. The young mutants finally help the destruction of the Giant Sentinel and the dialog between Wolverine and Cyclops really does not justify the break up in teams there is no compelling argument for the split, but it does happen.

However you look at Schism there are going to be new direction titles and new leadership of mutant kind. Regenesis has begun with the titles Uncanny X-Force #19 in December, Wolverine and the X-Men in October, Uncanny Legacy #259 in November, X-factor #230 in January, Generation Hope #13 in November, X-Men #20 in November, and New Mutants #33 in November, and the first restart of  Uncanny X-Men with #1 in November. The banners are below to check out. More to come on this change in titles of X-Men and related books. Stay tuned comic faithful For more. :) Walt

Marvel Studios Debuts New “The Avengers” Movie Trailer

The Avengers Movie

Marvel has premiered the much-anticipated trailer for “The Avengers,” the Joss Whedon – directed epic adventure that brings together the major players of the Marvel Movie universe. Preview from the CBR News team. The two-minute teaser establishes the movie’s premise, with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury laying out a vision for “a group of remarkable people” to “fight the battle we never could.” In this case that battle is with Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who says, “You were made to be ruled.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark gets the best lines, whether it’s bumping heads with Chris Evans’ Captain America, complimenting Mark Rufallo’s Bruce Banner on his ability to lose control, or solemnly vowing, “If we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damned sure we’ll avenge it.”

“The Avengers,” which opens May 4, 2012, also stars Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders and Stellan Skarsgård. From what we have seen it is well done and should hold the interest of Marvel fan’s around the world. I expect the first weekend to do very well at the box office. With Zak Penn and Joss Whedon (director) involved in the screenplay it should be good, should have all the ingrediants that made Marvel number one in the comic world. The powerful acting should come across well with Joss Whedon as director. This may be the most anticipated movie of 2012 by far. Definitely not one to miss. See you at the movies on this one. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade

The Children's Crusade #7

One of the series that has almost been over looked this year is Avengers: The Children’s Crusade. The Young Avengers appear in the 2010–2011 miniseries we are now at number 7 of 9 it will hit the stores September 21 this month. In the series, Magneto learned that the Young Avengers were going to search for the still missing Scarlet Witch, and that Wiccan and Speed may be the reincarnations of Wanda’s children. The Young Avengers finally find Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) and through a series of events she remembers what happened in Avengers Disassembled, House of M and Decimation. She is feeling guilty for the crimes she committed, the lives she changed the people she removed from existence. He changed reality itself with her mutant powers.

And now she is back to full power and knowledge of who she is. In issue #7 the media release says: IT’S THE AVENGERS VERSUS THE X-MEN – with the Young Avengers and X-Factor caught in the crossfire — as all four teams battle to determine who will hold the Scarlet Witch responsible for her crimes. Plus, when the origin of the Scarlet Witch’s godlike powers – and the secret history of her murderous rampage in “Avengers: Disassembled” — are finally revealed, the truth creates a rift among the members of the Young Avengers that the team may not survive.

Wanda is one of the most powerful mutants and must be dealt with in the Marvel universe. This series seems out of current continuity and does not fit in the current events in the Marvel major story arcs. So it may have happened previously. One way or the other it is an interesting story with very good art work. Story by Allan Heinberg, art by Jim Cheung and Mark Morales. For those who have always wondered what Marvel is going to do with the Scarlet Witch well here it is the story to read. Catch the next issue this week at your neighborhood comic store. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

Osborn’s Dark Avengers Return in November

The New Dark Avengers

From CBR News: November will see the return of the Dark Avengers to the Marvel Universe, according to a teaser released today by the publisher. Featuring art by Mike Deodato, the image showcases Norman Osborn in a Uncle Sam-esque pose, flanked by a trio of silhouetted characters, one of whom appears to be the Hulk’s son, Skaar, and another, bow-wielding character who strongly resembles Hawkeye, the identity taken on by the late Bullseye in the previous DA incarnation.

The team will debut in November’s “New Avengers” #18, written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Deodato. Dark Avengers was very popular for a very long time hence Osborn is back. How this is done you will have to check out The New Avengers #18 in November. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

Will the Human Torch Return Fantastic (Four) #1

Four Future

Marvel is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of “Fantastic Four” #1 with a new image teasing at the possible return of the Human Torch to the Marvel Universe. The image consists of a shot of the Fantastic Four’s icon set against a satellite photo of the Earth with a date of November 2011 at the bottom. Listed at the top is the project’s creative team — last names only — of Hickman, Epting, Di Giandomenico, Yu and Dalrymple. While the first two are obviously referring to the team of Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting, the creative duo behind the Death of the Human Torch storyline, the other names seem to indicate an interesting artistic line-up of consisting of (presumably) Farel Dalrymple, Leinil Francis Yu and Carmine Di Gianomencio.

Four Present

Marvel has officially released it as its third teaser for the November-launching project only known as “Four.” As with the previous teasers, the description for the image reads, as did yesterday’s, “FOUR,” and carries the same list of creator names (Hickman, Epting, Di Giandomenico, Yu and Dalrymple) and date of November 2011 which would, perhaps not coincidentally, be when “Fantastic Four” #600 would have been published if the title had not been cancelled and replaced by the Jonathan Hickman- “FF.”

Four Past

Remember in the issue that Johnny (Human Torch) was to die we never really saw his demise before the portal to the Negative Zone closed. So perhaps another comic hero returns from an apparent death. In the current series FF we see the Return of the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt who was rumored to be dead. Well the previews of the new series shows the Fantastic Four past, present, and future. Definitely worth checking out this November. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

Update 4 August 12, 2011: And, as predicted, a final shoe has dropped. While Fantastic Four is picking back up with a shiny #600 in November 2011, FF #12 will also be coming out that month. Perhaps Johnny is coming back.

Avengers Movie: Post Thor Trailer and Plot

Avengers Movie

When the Thor movie came out we saw what we thought was the Infinity Gauntlet in Asgard but with the ending of the Captain America movie we now know that the Cosmic Cube was handled by the Red Scull towards the end of the movie and was recovered by Howard Stark the father of Tony Stark who is Iron Man. Well in the Avengers Secret trailer at the end of the Thor Movie the Cube is seen briefly in the film in a post-credits scene. Nick Fury shows the box to Erik Selvig who, under the control of Loki, asks what it is, to which Fury replies “Power.”

Few items in the universe could ever compare to the sheer power of a Cosmic Cube. The power within the Cube allows whoever wields it to literally reshape reality around him. Virtually anything is possible. The key to unlocking it’s power is part of Loki’s scheme to be developed in the Avengers movie. According to the Latino Review, the big bad guy the Avengers will be facing in the Joss Whedon directed film of the same name will be, who has been rumored, Loki. According to sources, Loki uses this to summon the alien race known as the Skrulls to attack earth. The Skrulls are an advanced shape-shifting warrior alien race. He wants his brother destroyed, as well as Midgard (Earth); note: but not Asgard which intends to rule.

Kevin Feige Marvel Studios President and producer on The Avengers said the following: “In my opinion, The Skrulls are really the only viable threat that would require so many super heroes to fight as a team. Sure, you could have The Hulk as a villain in the beginning, but then they have to come together for an even bigger threat. Something hinted about in Iron Man 2, Thor and Cap by Nick Fury’s presence.”

If this is true I can see the Avengers fighting among themselves as they come together and bring Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) as the Hulk together to be a team. The first test of the team my be to subdue the Hulk and calm him down so Bruce banner can be reasoned with. Which agrees with a scene showing Bruce Banner in the Avengers head quarters. Then it’s Avengers Assemble to the common threat of the Skrulls and eventually Loki and the Cosmic Cube.

Well, in using the the Cube something goes wrong and Loki no longer has control over the Skrulls. Perhaps, the Cosmic Cube loses its power, and the Skrulls now decide to invade and take over everything. Of course, the Avengers assemble – with the Hulk – to take down this threat. It is rumored that the last hour is nothing but pure action pack mayhem.

The Avengers is set to assemble in theaters May 4th 2012 starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson. So in less than a year we will know what’s up with the Avengers. This can not be missed. Mark your calender. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

New Ultimate Spider-Man Revealed

Miles Morales as Spider-Man

SPOILER WARNING: Plot points from this Wednesday’s “Ultimate Fallout” #4. News release from Marvel in CBR. Readers following Marvel Comics many teaser images for this week’s “Ultimate Fallout” #4 may have noticed that the daily countdown aspect promising a revelation as to the identity of the new Ultimate Spider-Man didn’t count down to the book’s on sale date of Wednesday. It counted to today.

In accordance with their recent string of high profile mass media announcements, Marvel let early news of the reveal slip to USA Today who published a story revealing that the new Spider-Man is a young half-black/half-Hispanic teenager – a first for the hero’s franchise. The article identified the new Spider-Man to be one Miles Morales. “In his first appearance, he simply breaks up a fight,” the paper reports. “But readers will learn the true origin of Morales and how he became the new Spider-Man when Ultimate Spider-Man relaunches in September with a new No. 1 issue.” Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso told USA Today, “What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity. We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.”

“The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility,” added writer Brian Michael Bendis. “He’s going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means.”

Official Press Release

Pop culture history will be made tomorrow as Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 hits shelves and introduces readers to the all-new Ultimate Comics Spider-Man! That’s right, for the first time ever, someone other than Peter Parker will be Spider-Man! But, after the death of Peter Parker, who will rise up to defend the Ultimate Universe?Meet Miles Morales, a seemingly normal teenager from New York who will soon discover  that with great power comes great responsibility…and even greater danger! But just what are the secrets behind Miles’ shocking abilities? What’s his connection to the original Spider-Man? And just why does he wear that costume? Courtesy of superstars Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Ultimate Comics Fallout #4  begins the story that’ll have everyone talking for years to come!

“When the opportunity arose to create a new Spider-Man, we knew it had to be a character that represents the diversity—in background and experience—of the twenty-first century,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “Miles is a character who not only follows in the tradition of relatable characters like Peter Parker, but also shows why he’s a new, unique kind of Spider-Man—and worthy of that name.”

With its inception in 2000, the Ultimate Comics Universe reimagined the world’s most popular super heroes for a new generation and has been critically lauded for its bold, resonant stories. In particular, Ultimate Spider-Man #1 is widely considered one of the most important comics of the century, setting records for trade paperback sales and introducing one of the most popular versions of Spider-Man ever. With the death of Peter Parker in June 2011, all eyes were once again on the Ultimate Comics Universe, as mainstream media and fans alike speculated just who Marvel would put under the mask of this beloved hero. Now, the chart-topping team of Bendis and Pichelli begin the next major chapter of the Ultimate Comics Universe with September’s historic Ultimate Comics spider-Man #1, giving readers a chance to learn the origin of the most important new character of the century.

“The chance for the world to join a new Spider-Man as he discovers what that means in this modern world is one of the most challenging and crazy fun opportunities I’ve had as a writer,” explained Bendis. “The Ultimate Comics Universe according to Miles is completely unique.  I can’t wait to write every issue and I can’t wait for people to start reading them.”

Pichelli added, “I promise, you will fall in love with Miles– I already did. ‘Nuff Said.”

Well it is ‘Nuff said right now but we will be commenting later on the turn of events with the new Ultimate Universe and Spider-Man. We will see if a rose by any other name is still a rose and if Spider-Man that is not Peter Parker is still Spider-Man. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt

New Incredible Hulk #1 News From SDCC

Incredible Hulk #1

At their “Fear Itself” panel Sunday afternoon at Comic-Con International: San Diego, Marvel revealed what’s next: a brand new Incredible Hulk #1 in October, from the high-profile creative team of writer/Marvel Architect Jason Aaron (Wolverine, Scalped) and artist/Top Cow founder Marc Silvestri (Uncanny X-Men, The Darkness).

I just read an exclusive interview by Albert Ching, Newsarama Staff Writer with Jason Aaron who is the new writer for Incredible Hulk with Greg Pak leaving the title in August with #635 as we have featured previously here. The Hulk has had many wars and battles since his creation but now he is battling himself. The classic “Hulk vs” story has come to be Hulk vs Bruce Banner. Yes they are separate and Jason Aaron will build on that theme at the end of the Fear Itself story line.

Jason talks about the influence of writers of the Hulk including John Byrne, Peter David, and of course Greg Pak. ” You can’t really talk about the Hulk without talking about Peter David’s run. I read all that stuff off the rack as it was coming out. I think I first started when [Todd] McFarlane, and then Erik Larsen, were drawing it. Even before that, I loved the short John Byrne run, which I think was the first time we had ever seen Hulk and Banner split apart into two different entities. And then the

Incredible Hulk #3

Bruce Jones run really hooked me on Hulk again. That was a book that really made the Hulk a monster again, it really kind of changed the tone of the book. It wasn’t a superhero book, which I liked. Then you’ve got to give Greg Pak big credit. He’s taken the Hulk to all-new heights over the course of his long run, and done some amazing, character-defining stories.

Jason wants to develop the the clash between the Bruce Banner vs Hulk persona. “Hulk has been a lot of different things At the end of the day, it always comes back to that dynamic between Banner and this other persona that’s inside him, the Hulk. That’s what my book will focus on. I’ll be trying to kind of turn the tables a little bit and look at that from a different perspective.

The Hulk has been a monster a hero and the most miss understood Marvel character. I will be checking out this new look at The Incredible Hulk starting in October. You knew they would not let the title end. Stay tuned comic faithful for more. :) Walt
