Blackest Night 8 Final

Eight months has passed and Geoff Johns has brought the conclusion to the Blackest Night series. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Ivan Reis, Blackest Night involves a personified force of death resurrecting deceased superheroes and seeking to eliminate all life and emotion from the universe. Geoff Johns has identified the series’ central theme as emotion. Both Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver have stated that “Blackest Night” is the third part of a Green Lantern event trilogy that began with Rebirth and continued with “Sinestro Corps War“. But it was very far reaching changing some events of Final Crisis and bringing a new direction in the DC Universe and introducing the White Light Entity that triggered existence. Also a series of events in the story bring back: Maxwell Lord, Professor Zoom, Jade, Hawk, Captain Boomerang, Firestorm, the Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Deadman, and Osiris. And if that is not enough Hal Jordan and Barry Allen realize the Black Lantern Batman being a fake means Bruce Wayne is still alive.

We have learned that the White Light Entity is a powerful source that later is represented in a White Power Battery on a distant road in a crater. We know that all the spectrum’s of light have a power battery and will play a part in the Green Lantern Saga in the future. We learned that men and women make choices in life and death situations that control who they are. We know that we will see more illumination of the events of Blackest Night. DC announced in early January that following the end of Blackest Night they would launch Brightest Day, a 26-issue bi-weekly comic book written by Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi.

It is my Feeling that Geoff John hit a home run with this story and sent DC Comics in a direction that will make them very successful. I believe this is the best series of the last several years in comics and look forward to reading the new story Brightest Day. The series has received generally positive reviews. Comic Book Resources gave the first and third issues in the series 5 out of 5 stars, and the second received 4.5 stars. IGN also reviewed the series favorably, rating the first three individual issues between 8.7 and 9.3 out of a possible 10. We will be following the new popularity of Green Lantern to see if it will last. See you at the comic shop. Stay tuned comic faithful for More. :) Walt
